Is the $5000 that “accidentally” got transferred to her account going to be reversed? When she logs into her credit union app her savings account is just gone. But is there any hope of getting her money back? The approx $5800 I think at this point. We are going money to close that account and open a new one. We tried the fraud line but they could only help with her debit card, but that hadn’t been compromised. My mom has a credit union and this all happened after business hours on Saturday. I know it’s a scam so I delete TeamViewer and install bitdefender. “Neil” keeps saying he will give me back the rest of the money but he has to connect to the computer to do it. I get to her and am able to cancel $2000 in visa gift cards, I just reported them stolen. She alerted me as to what was going on at this point and that this guy was “holding me hostage on the phone”. $2000 specifically Walmart and $2000 she did in visa gift cards. He was all “I’m going to get fired!!” He had her buy $4000 in gift cards. She accidentally typed in 5170 so he actually transferred $5170 to her account. He had his bank numbers and she was to get $517 from him. Neil offers to get it back for her because it was an “accidental charge” from “Microsoft”. Next thing she knows is $9000 is gone from savings.
He had her install TeamViewer on her computer and then had her log into her bank account. She clicked the link (first error) and somehow ended up getting connected with a Neil who was “going to help her get her money back”. She got an email saying she had a PayPal transaction for $517. This afternoon I get a text from my mom that someone stole $9000 in cash and $4000 in gift cards from her.
